Shed

In weaving, the shed is the temporary opening between the upper and lower warp ends, created by raising some heald frames and lowering others. The weft is inserted through this opening on each pick.

Shed formation, weft insertion, beat-up, and take-up are the four primary motions of a weaving loom. The shed must open cleanly, stay open long enough for weft insertion, and close cleanly — any irregularity causes warp breaks or weft mis-insertions.

Shed-related defects are common at higher loom speeds, especially when warp tension is uneven or heald frames are worn. The fault profile shows up in MobiOffice as concentrated warp wastage on specific machines, surfaced via per-machine variance flags.
