Pick

A pick is a single traversal of the weft across the warp. Pick density — picks per inch (PPI) — is a primary fabric specification.

Higher PPI generally means denser, heavier fabric. Modern shuttle-less looms run at 400–1000+ picks per minute depending on loom type — water jet at the high end, rapier in the middle, powerloom and conventional looms lower.

Pick count enters into beam planning calculations and into machine efficiency tracking. A loom running below its rated PPM signals downtime, design issues, or yarn quality problems — all caught faster when production is tracked live, not at end of shift.
