Reed

A reed is a comb-like component on a loom that holds the warp ends at a fixed density and beats each pick of weft into the cloth.

Reed count (dents per inch) determines warp density. The reed is one of the most precision-critical components on a loom — a single bent dent causes warp breaks and visible defects in the fabric.

Reed-related downtime and wastage are tracked per-machine in MobiOffice. When a particular loom shows repeated reed-related variance flags, it surfaces in the wastage-by-machine view before it shows up at month-end.
