Denier

Denier is a yarn count system used for synthetic yarns — polyester, nylon, viscose. It measures the linear mass of yarn: the higher the denier number, the heavier (thicker) the yarn.

One denier equals 1 gram per 9,000 metres of yarn. So 30-denier yarn is finer than 150-denier. Common Indian polyester yarn counts run 30D, 50D, 75D, 150D for sarees and dress material.

Beam planning calculations use denier to convert from fabric specifications (EPI, width, length) to total yarn weight in kilograms. Mixing up denier with English count (Ne) or Tex is one of the most common manual calculation errors. MobiOffice stores yarn count and count system on the yarn master so the conversion is automatic.
